Princess Kakyuu
Princess Kakyuu comes from the planet Kinmoku-sei. Her name, Kakyuu means "Fireball." Kinmoku-sei means "olive flowers," so that is why you see the flowers on her. Kakyuu is the first princess of the Tankei Empire. The Sailor Starlights come from the same planet as her; they are her guardians. Not much is known about Princess Kakyuu. Princess Kakyuu can transform into a Sailor Senshi. She simply needs to utter the words "Kinmoku Star Power! Make Up!" and she will transform into Sailor Kakyuu. She has two attacks: Starlights Royal Straight Flush and Kinmoku Fusion Tempest! Princess Kakyuu's planet was peaceful until Galaxia attacked it, conquering planets for Chaos. Many of Kinmoku-sei's people were killed, including Princess Kakyuu's lover. Princess Kakyuu was able to escape to earth. (This is why the Sailor Starlights come to earth; they are looking for their missing princess.) Princess Kakyuu is severly injured and Chibi Chibi finds her in a park, unconcious. Chibi Chibi places her in a chalice to recover. When Princess Kakyuu is fully recovered, she comes out of the chalice and meets Usagi. She pleads with Usagi to defeat Galaxia and save the galaxy. They find out that all of the inner senshi, and the cats, have been destroyed by Galaxia and their star seeds were taken. Sailor Moon, the Sailor Starlights, and Princess Kakyuu go to seek Galaxia at her domain in the Zero Star Sagittarius, a place where all planets are born. On this journey, the Sailor Starlights are killed Sailor Chi and Sailor Phi. Sailor ChibiMoon and the Sailor Quartet join up with Sailor Moon and Princess Kakyuu to help them in their quest. Upon reaching Galaxia's palace, Chi and Phi appear again. A battle emerges. Princess Kakyuu transforms into Sailor Kakyuu for the first time. During the battle, Sailor Chi sneaks up behind Kakyuu and stabs her. Sailor Moon destroys Chi, and Kakyuu dies in her arms. In the manga, it is not stated whether or not Sailor Kakyuu and the Sailor Starlights are reborn, as are the other Sailor Senshi. One can only guess. I would hope that they were. The anime story is somewhat different, but has almost the same basic storyline. And in the anime, there is no Sailor Chi or Phi. Galaxia is the one to kill Kakyuu. We do know in the anime that Princess Kakyuu lives again in the end. Like other fans, I wonder why Kakyuu is called Sailor Kakyuu. Since all of the other senshi are named after their planets, why isn't she named after hers? It would be interesting to me to find out why Takeuchi Naoko named Princess Kakyuu's senshi form as such. |
