Kunzite
Kunzite is a warrior of the Dark Kingdom. He is one of the four generals, along with Nephrite, Zoisite, and Jadeite. However, Kunzite hasn't always been one of Queen Beryl's minions. During the Silver Millenium, Kunzite was the leader of the four generals, who where then Prince Endymion's protectors. Just as Prince Endymion fell in love with Princess Serenity, Kunzite fell in love with Sailor Venus, the leader of the Inner Senshi. We know this because it is hinted at in both the Sailor V manga and in the Sailor Moon manga. In the Sailor V manga, Adonis, who battles Sailor V, tells her how he knows that even back then (referring to the Silver Millenium) Sailor V only had eyes for Kunzite, the general of Earth. In the Sailor Moon manga, we see a memory from the past: Princess Serenity is sneaking off to Earth to visit Prince Endymion. Sailor Venus sees Princess Serenity and scolds her. Later, on Earth, Sailor Venus grabs Princess Serenity and scolds her. Kunzite is there, and Sailor Venus blushes as Endymion and Sailor Mercury scold them both. Sailor Venus just shakes her head. In the past, Kunzite was corrupted by Queen Metallia and turned evil. When reborn, Kunzite and the other generals was corrupted again, and again put with evil forces. For a brief time in the manga, Kunzite regains his memories of the man he used to be. He remembers that his duty was to protect Prince Endymion. However, this memory is quickly erased as Queen Beryl brainwashes him. Kunzite then goes to attack the Sailor Senshi. All the senshi pool their powers and blast Kunzite to death. When the four generals die, they turn to the stone they were named after. Kunzite is an actual gem, and that is what Kunzite turns into. Kunzite reappears at Queen Beryl's feet as the jewel Kunzite. Queen Beryl, who has taken Mamoru's body, orders him to awaken as a soulless corpse. Mamoru takes the four jewels of the generals, which have turned into cracked stones. After all the generals have died, we do see them again when Mamoru's soul comes back to him. Usagi realizes she must kill Mamoru to save Earth, because half of the Silver Imperium Crystal has gone into his body. She slashes him, and then turns the sword upon herself. However, Usagi and Mamoru's lives are both saved: Usagi's because the pocketwatch Mamoru gave her stopped the swoard's blade, and Mamoru becuase the four stones of the generals that were in his pocket saved him. Mamoru looks at the stones which have saved him and an image appears before him. The image is of the four generals. Kunzite tells him how to defeat Queen Metallia. He then tells Mamoru that he was glad for the opportunity to meet him, and wishes that Mamoru will now find peace. Then the image disappears. In the anime, they made Kunzite and Zoisite a couple. This never happened in the manga. To me, this is a disgrace to the manga storyline. Kunzite is one of my favorite villains because he has such and interesting past. To me, he is one of the most complex villains in the Sailor Moon manga. |
