Tuxedo Kamen
Names: Chiba Mamoru, Darien, Prince Darien, Prince Endymion, Tuxedo Kamen, Tuxedo Mask Mamoru is the main male hero in Sailor Moon. He is also known as Tuxedo Kamen, and has often been to Sailor Moon's rescue. But who is this masked man? Mamoru is very well respected by the other senshi. Other people also seem to look up to him as well, such as Asanuma. We can loosely call Mamoru "Sailor Earth," as he is the protector of earth. However, Naoko Takeuchi has clearly stated that only girls can be sailor senshi, therfore Mamoru can never be a true Sailor Senshi. In the manga, Usagi runs into Mamoru a couple of times. He makes fun of her odangos, and she decides that he's a huge jerk. Their initial encounters, to say the least, are somewhat humorous. When Sailor Moon is fighting Tuxedo Kamen often comes to help her. When Sailor Moon goes unconcious in the manga, Tuxedo Kamen takes her back to his apartment. When she wakes up, she learns that Mamoru is Tuxedo Kamen. Later, Mamoru learns that he is Prince Endymion of Earth. He begins to remember is love with Princess Serenity. And he remembers is past life during the Silver Millenium. A love between the Earth and the Moon was forbidden. However, Princess Selenity and Prince Endymion fell in love. The princess would often sneak to earth to visit her beloved Prince. During the Silver Millenium, Queen Metallia corrupts the people of earth. Queen Beryl kills Prince Endymion, Princess Serenity commits suicide, and the Silver Millenium comes to an end. Prince Endymion is reborn on earth as Mamoru. During the Silver Millenium, Prince Endymion did have four generals at his side: Jadeite, Kunzite, Nephrite, and Zoisite. They are corrupted by Queen Metallia and turn against Prince Endymion. Sadly, when the four generals are reborn, they end up being warriors of the Dark Kingdom. Often times, Sailor Moon fans think of Mamoru as weak, and a poor match for Usagi. If you watch the anime, it doesn't really do him justice. In the anime, all they really do is give him a bunch of roses to through. To me, this is somewhat of a joke. During the manga, Asanuma, who looks up to Mamoru, meets Mamoru one day while he is nervous about his high school entrance exams. He shakes Mamoru's hand, and recieves and electric shock as Mamoru reassures him. Later, Asanuma sees Mamoru heal himself after he got hurt playing soccer. Later, we discover that Mamoru's power is called psychometry. He has the ability to sense things with a touch of his hand. Also, Tuxedo Kamen does have his own attack, called "La Smoking Bomber" in the manga. We also learn that not only is Mamoru the crown prince of Earth, but he is also heir to the Golden Kingdom, Elysion. Elysion is a holy place that is inside the Earth. It is the center of Earth and watches over Earth. Mamoru is the prince of Elysion and, in the Silver Millenium, Elysion is where he stood at command. Later, we also learn that Mamoru contains the Golden Crystal, just as Usagi contains the Silver Imperium Crystal. During Sailor Moon StarS, Galaxia is very happy to get her hands on this important crystal. During the manga, poor Mamoru is brainwashed twice. Once, by the evil Queen Beryl of the Dark Kingdom, whom lusted after him. The second time, by the Black Moon Family. However, Sailor Moon always saves him. In the future, Mamoru will become King Endymion of Earth. As always, King Endymion is very much in love with his Neo Queen Selenity. He has a daughter, Neo Princess Selenity. Some fans have rumored that Sailor Pluto and King Endymion were in love, but this is not true. In the manga, King Endymion visits Sailor Pluto for the very first time when looking for his daughter. It is obvious that Sailor Pluto is very happy and pleased to have a visitor. When Sailor Pluto dies, she thinks about the king. However, there is no real evidence of a relationship. Mamoru is my second favorite character. He is smart, handsome, and an important part of the Sailor team. I like the fact that he is a complicated character, which makes him fun to talk about. ^_^ |
